Sara Lee ex-IT folks: Dinner 2007.01.05

Makati City, January 5, 2007 –  Ah the good ole days of no sleep, traveling dust, reimbursement problems, database dump and reload, dbkey errors, complaining branches as well as hilarious incidents during branch and service center visits.

These were revisited during dinner at Gerry’s Grill in Makati when I met up with some of my fellow ex-system supervisors from “House of Sara Lee” or Sara Lee Direct Selling Phils as it may now have been called.

Ariel Patio (aka Butete or more commonly Tebutets) and Richard Zamuco (aka Tipaks short for Tipaklong) were on a visit from Canada (where they now reside).

Raymond Peralta (Tio Paeng..yes it has a naughty connotation) had given me a ring to say dinner was rescheduled to Friday and that it was a go.

So bum stomach notwithstanding I waited in vain for a taxi in Ortigas..gave up and jogged to the train station. I trudged from Ayala MRT since there were no jeepneys that Friday night…way back to my home and picked up my camera then sprinted to the restaurant.

I found the aforementioned 3 guys with Froilan “Froi” Matias (aka Bakulaw) and Rodrigo “Ompong” Paguirigan (aka Bukol or Buks) more than halfway through crispy pata and other grilled delicacies.

Omps had to leave with his wife Mel earlier but Mike Muceros (aka Tubo or Tubs) did make it after the check was paid. We then proceeded to the ubiquitous and nearest Starbucks where talk inevitably turned technical. It is funny how the problems we had encountered before were still there in our old company, and though we are scattered in different companies (using SAP, Oracle, Progress etc.), the common memories we had still give us cause to chortle with glee during the conversation.

To be the only thorn among the roses was fun…either in the old days or nowadays…It is hard to believe that a lot of years had passed since I last saw all of these guys in one place, and they haven’t even changed, physically I mean…well, maybe a few pounds or ounces…

In one of the albums in this site, you will see one of our old pics during a team building and compare it with how we look now…still the same good-looking men *cough*. Nesty (who had a date kuno) and Jorel (hmm..dunno why) were not with us during this affair when they are still here in Manila. The others are in Canada too.

Posting pics here so the guys can download…

New Year 2007 Countdown in Makati City!

On Dec 31, 2006 I was torn between free food (but for the difficulty in finding a taxi) at an aunt’s far far away and the concert and booths in Ayala corner Paseo de Roxas in Makati City. The latter won the contest as to where to spend New Year’s eve by a hair’s breadth (thanks to the difficulty in finding a taxi willing to ferry us to that far far away place)…

Makati is still a small place (or it could really be because its the center of action), the same with Mall of Asia…I still bumped into two developers from my current company in the midst of the large crowd which gathered at this junction. OPM was emphasized and enjoyed with such bands as Imago, Itchy Worms, Rocksteddy, Sandwich etc. etc. (sayang walang sandwich na binigay)…all the activities and booths were for a good cause, proceeds and donations were to be given to the victims of the recent typhoons. (though if you ask me, some of the organizations could have donated more you know *wink*)

I had a couple of funny experiences that night, but all in all, it wasn’t a bad end to 2006…sure, fun was poked at the single people in the crowd, and yung mga may “sungay” but hey, I had 20 minutes of fireworks to look forward to that night…
